One of my favorite things about sharing in this space is discovering new businesses and brands that I know y’all will love just as much as I do. It is a privilege to be a tastemaker for HerStory and to shine a light on their mission and thoughtful collection of accessories, clothes, art, and more – all from women-found and led brands across the world. Before I dive in further, I’d love to share a little backstory a little backstory on how I became familiar with HerStory that makes it all feel so “meant to be”. In Fall of 2023 while visiting Dallas, I pulled into Highland Park Village to meet my sister for dinner at Honor Bar when I got lucky with a parking spot nearby, right in front of LoveShackFancy. I noticed they were having a pop up shop with hats that I immediately recognized as Corazon Playero! I’d long been admiring these pieces of wearable art after seeing lots of the Texas ladies I know return from their Cabo with them. It’s no secret that I love hats – but they don’t always love my XL head back – so I was excited to be able to try them on in person. After chatting with the ladies at the pop up, I learned that they were there via a local store that began carrying Corazon Playero, which turned out to be HerStory. After trying on a few hats, relieved to find out that they do fit my noggin, I exchanged information with the ladies at the pop up so that I could take some time to figure out which hat was my fave. I headed inside LoveShackFancy where I browsed for a bit, was tickled to see a selection of TRVL design bags for sale(another female founded brand I’ve loved since their very first collection) and grabbed a few to purchase for my girls. I then heard someone calling my name and met Kelsey Crain by the display of her new boot brand, Petite Paloma. Kelsey mentioned to me that one of her best friends, Milan Organ of Magnolia Boone Paperie had shared my account with her when they’d been discussing introducing extended calf sizes and it felt so fortuitous to cross paths. Not to mention, the way I’d met her friend Milan in the first place was when we happened to be neighbors staying on the same ranch in Round Top the month prior. We made plans to have coffee the next day (which turned into an extra long lunch at Rise) and I did, in fact, go on to wear and share my own pair of Petite Paloma boots with Kelsey a few months later at The Southern C.
All that to say, this impromptu 10 minute side quest before dinner had so many twists and turns that illustrates just how small and connected the world can be, which is exactly the kind of power HerStory founders aim to leverage. I’m sure you can tell that we went from a Pop-Up meet cute to partnership, and as if I weren’t already fully sold by their core beliefs and beautiful selection, I found out later that HerStory was cofounded by two of my SMU Kappa sisters.
